Sustainable practices make “cents”…

GSR Andrade recently completed Willie B. Johnson Recreation Center for the City of Dallas – a 6,000 s.f. renovation to the existing center including updated finishes, the installation of a commercial kitchen and the addition of solar panels.

Although the project was a renovation and not subject to the Park and Recreation Department’s requirement for LEED certification, we utilized the LEED Rating System as a guideline for the overall facility’s design – establishing goals for the construction exceeding the City’s Green Ordinance.

A highlight of the project (which was not part of the original program) was the incorporation of a Solar Carport in the recreation center’s parking lot that not only provides shade and protection for City vehicles, but provides 15% of the center’s annual energy use!  In addition, the project was still completed under budget.
