Project Description

The total renovation of this research facility represents a transformation for the Prairie View Engineering Quad. Funded through the A&M System’s Chancellor’s Research Initiative, this strategic renovation will enable ground-breaking research in SmartGrid solar and wind technologies, as well as future research initiatives.

The project includes converting all laboratory and support spaces to modern standards, updating casework, plumbing, power, data, exhaust systems, and equipment. A new state-of-the-art laboratory space has been created within the building shell. The renovated lobby features patterned glass, an innovative video display, and a striking reception desk, creating a welcoming entrance to the facility. Mechanical systems, plumbing systems, and acid waste dilution systems have been replaced, along with both stairways being enclosed in fire-resistive construction to meet current code. The passenger elevator system has been upgraded to enhance circulation, and public restrooms have been expanded, including a new unisex restroom with updated plumbing fixtures, millwork, and toilet accessories. Additionally, roofing has been replaced to FM Global standards, and windows/storefronts have been upgraded to meet energy code requirements.
