Project Description

The North Texas Food Bank was a 2-year collaborative design effort between GSRA, NTFB and Belle Firma (landscape architect) to design the Corporate Facility and Distribution Center for the North Texas Food Bank. Maintaining some continuity of the corporate colors, design features and functionality from their three current locations (Farmer’s Market, Dan Morton and Cockrell Hill) was a strong focus for designer Jason Russell. Additionally, the use of over 50 – 40′-0″ tall painted steel pipes at various angles, custom colored cement panels and floor to ceiling glass, help to accentuate the entry of this modern facility.

The project includes over 36,000 s.f. of office, 200,000 s.f. of warehouse, and nearly one acre of land for the Community Garden.

Site and landscape amenities include the community garden, which features a 5,000 gallon rainwater cistern, Children’s Learning Garden, composting area, greenhouse, painted shipping containers for storage, covered pavilions for volunteer groups, and various planting beds and vegetable gardens. Additional site features include 13 concrete planters with varying heights for flowers, a monument sign incorporating additional landscaping, stone pavers with donor names, and a sculpture at the entry.

Interior design features include a two story lobby, Volunteer Orientation Center, multiple conference rooms, break rooms, over 25 private offices, open office areas, training rooms, and a driver check-in area.

Warehouse features include a Shipping/Receiving Office, 25 dock doors, 1 loading ramp, over 80,000 square feet of cooler, freezer, a USDA-climate controlled storage space, and 45 battery charging stations for forklifts.
