Hutchins Public Safety Building

Project Description

This new secure facility (18,800-SF) is a combined police station and fire substation with two full drive-thru apparatus bays, capable of supporting 6 firefighters per shift. An adjoining community meeting room serves as a code-compliant storm shelter that will protect the nearby neighborhood. The facility includes dispatch rooms; living quarters and kitchen; and a shared workout room with police officers. A memorial to the City’s veterans and first responders is located at the northwest corner near the community center.

The new station follows sustainable site practices, such as high en- ergy and water efficiency, stormwater management, light pollution reduction, and reduction of the heat island with reflective roofing and
paving. Native, water-efficient landscaping and innovative irrigation limits the use of potable water for the site.
