On November 17th, Robert Croysdale, AIA, LEED AP BD+C (GSR Andrade’s Vice President for Academic & Institutional Environments),participated on a panel at the Dallas Center for Architecture discussing the completed and ongoing restoration efforts of Fair Park since 1984. Among GSRA’s restoration projects reviewed were the award-winning Band Shell, as well as the Aquarium Annex and the Horticultural Building .
Moderated by DCFA’s Greg Brown, the panel included other architects involved in the park’s restoration as well as Willis Winters, assistant director for Dallas Park and Rec and author of the recent book Fair Park. The panel discussed a wide range of topics, from the challenges of historic preservation to the seemingly boundless collections of murals and art throughout the Park. In support of this effort for Summer Place Park, GSRA has been orchestrating projects in the master plan for the past three years, which Robert detailed at the panel. These have included the Log Flume Ride, new permanent Shade Structures over all The Midway’s main pedestrian streets, and most recently the Greenhouse on The Midway.
