Hutchins Public Safety Building

Project Description

This new, secure facility is a combined police station and fire substation with (2) full drive thru apparatus bays, capable of supporting (6) firefighters per shift. An adjoining community meeting room serves as a code-compliant storm shelter that will protect the nearby neighborhood. The facility includes dispatch rooms, living quarters, kitchen, and a shared workout room with police officers. A memorial to the City’s veterans and first responders is located at the northwest corner near the community center.

The new station follows sustainable site practices, such as high energy and water efficiency, stormwater management, light pollution reduction, and reduction of the heat island with reflective roofing and paving. Native, water-efficient landscaping and innovative irrigation limits the use of potable water for the site.
