A great team of designers (Janna Jellum-Velasquez, Favi Rietti, Erin Phillips, Jessica Williams, and Chuck Bennett) from GSR Andrade Architects unveiled their “fairytale” creation at the 2nd Annual IIDA CRE8 Design Challenge and Fashion Show (benefitting CASA) on Friday, April 27th at eM the Venue.
The challenge was to create a garment in 8 days. Not just any garment, but a garment that celebrates the connection between interior design and fashion! This year’s theme was Fairytales, inspired by childhood favorites such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstock, and Sleeping Beauty. Whether inspired by the story’s villain, hero, or damsel in distress, the goal was to see who had the fairest design of them all.

Each design team was randomly paired with 2 garment underwriters – 1 softgood and 1 hardgood manufacturer. They worked together to create a couture garment out of products like carpet, tile, and wallcovering!
The GSRA team selected Alice in Wonderland as their fairytale, and more specifically, the Cheshire Cat as inspiration. The whimsical costume was then designed and fabricated by the team, and modeled in the show by Jessica Williams.
